Leah Chase (January 6, 1923- June 1, 2019) is an American based Chef in New Orleans, LA. Chef Chase is an author and television personality.The Nation's per-eminent Creole Chef known as the Queen of Creole Cuisine fed Presidents and Freedom Fighters. Chef Chase the owner of Dooky Chases's in New Orleans, LA was established in 1941. What was initially a sandwich shop and lottery ticket outlet in 1939 blossomed into a thriving bar and later a respected family restaurant in Treme. Dooky Chase's, which served as a meeting place for civil rights workers, entertainers and literary giants was also visited by Presidents George W Bush and Barack Obama but the Chase Family enjoys serving its regular customers, tourists and locals. Chase received numerous awards throughout her career. One notably being the first African-American Women to received "The Lifetime Achievement Award" from James Beard. Leah also received several honorary degrees from Tulane University; Dillard University; Our Lady of Holy Cross College; Loyola University New Orleans and Johnson and Wales University. Leah Chase found herself not only starring in television shows like NCIS New Orleans but being portrayed as Princess Tiana, the waitress who wanted to own her own restaurant in the Disney feature "The Princess and the Frog." Leah Chase was 96 when she passed away, she was not only a pioneer but also an advocate for African-American Art and Creole Cuisine.
